Stress Management

Our bodies are designed to handle small doses of stress. But, we are not equipped to handle long-term, chronic stress without ill consequence. Stress is a result of our reactions to the demands placed upon us when we find it difficult to cope; it can be situations or events which we feel are putting pressure on us, having too many things to think about and do, or feeling that we do not have control over what is happening. Constantly feeling overburdened and distressed often results in emotional and physical damage. If the stress reaction is not removed it increases, on-going stress is called chronic stress; Stress Hypnotherapy will help.

Stress is a reaction to feeling threatened, or under pressure whether real or perceived. Feeling threatened elicits a chemical reaction to protect us — the ‘fight or flight’ response driven by the sympathetic nervous system, often known as the stress response. During this stress response the heart increases, muscles tense, breathing quickens and blood pressure rises, this makes us ready to protect ourselves. Once the ‘danger’ passes these symptoms are normally harmonised and we return to our previous state.

How can hypnotherapy for chronic stress help?

While hypnotherapy for chronic stress can’t change the experiences and situations that cause stress, it will help you to control your reactions. Without stress management chronic stress can lead to mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression. Learning how to manage your stress on a conscious level will help you deal with stress more easily. Hypnotherapy can help you to improve your communication skills so you can say ‘no’ more readily if it suits you. We can work out strategies for making ‘you time’, self-care will develop your emotional resilience.  It can help to improve your quality of life and make relationship interaction calmer and giving you helpful, healthy ways to cope, reducing general anxiety. When you are deeply relaxed in hypnosis your subconscious mind will easily absorb suggestions, these can be used to change your reactions and behaviour, helping you to think and feel calmer and so cope with anything, anyone and any situation more easily.

I booked the appointment as a result of being diagnosed with Breast cancer in 2012 and reaching the crucial 5 year post treatment and diagnoses. I had hit a wall in terms of being able to move on and the thoughts associated with this.

Julia put me at ease straight away. She asked what I wanted out of the hypnotherapy session and listened to my wishes and hypnotherapy needs. My first session was very helpful as Julia had given me some great visual aids to turn the scary negative thoughts - into very positive ones.

My 2nd session was equally as helpful. I have learned to use the visual and verbal techniques to help me get past my fears and worries. Julia has really helped me considerably. She is realistic about your abilities and really makes you feel that you are being listened to.

I would definitely recommend Julia as a hypnotherapist. She is reliable and is a very good hypnotherapist.

+ Does hypnotherapy for chronic stress work?

Hypnotherapy is an effective tool to access your inner resources to enable you to see things differently so you can manage any situation in a calm, relaxed and confident manner. There is a common misconception that situations are stressful, but it’s your reaction to it that makes you feel stressed. Hypnotherapy prevents the stress reaction, working at a deeper level to positively change how you think, feel and behave, so you can remain calm under pressure, think clearly and be in the present moment.
